Racing News

The title of this article says it all!! There is not much more for me to say about. OK, OK, you twisted my arm I'll give you the whole story!

In the draw for the heat race Roger drew a #42. Not looking to good at this point. This would mean he would have to start last. Which is what he did indeed. Racing in heat # 1 starting in 9th. position. The heat went pretty well with Roger passing 3 cars and finishing 6 th.

The feature, to say the least, was very intense. Roger started out in 9th. position and from the start he began to pour on some good 'ol fashioned dirt racing fury. The #11 began to quickly move up through the pack picking off cars one by one as he made his way to the front of the pack. Dust began to fill the air as the big boys and their toys battled their way with the hopes of a feature win and to claim the "Mid-season Championship".

By lap #10 Roger had made his way to 2nd. place behind the #10 car of Ralph Markham. The Markham boys battled it out as they raced for 1st. place. Roger needed to pass Ralph for the win and this would be no easy task. For those of you who do not know, Ralph is the 2007 Season Point Champion at LaSalle Speedway and unarguably the main contender at LaSalle this season.

Roger began to close in on Ralph and looked as if he could make the pass. A caution came and after the re-line up Ralph began to pull away from Roger. Watching the two brothers race was one of the most intense races I have ever had the pleasure to watch.

Unfortunately at lap #16 the #10 car of Ralph Markham clipped the wall while coming out of turn #1 and subsequently launched him into the fence between turn #1 and #2. An expletive spewed simultaneously from my mouth as well as from another crew member and Ralph's Father, Alvin as we watched the accident unfold before us. We went silent as we waited to he hear if Ralph was OK. A sigh of relief came over us we watched Roger drive over to Ralph and give the "thumbs up".

Now that we knew Ralph was indeed OK we could now focus our attention on getting his front right tire changed and some body damage taken care of so he could finish the race.

For the remaining 9 laps of the race Roger was able to to continue to hold onto 1st. place and log his first feature win at LaSalle!

Next week, Saturday June 28, 2008, is the Triple Crown. That is 50 laps of high adreanalin racing! On Saturday July 5, 2008 we will be treated to 2 late model features as we make up a rain out date from June 14. A great way to spend part of your July 4th. weekend!! Two great race weekends back to back!!

Don't forget to visit Roger and the #11 after the races in the pits. Come down and meet Roger and his crew. Kids can sit in the car and get a signed hero card from Roger.

As always, see you next time!
